It’s been interesting couple of weeks. Getting used to being single after so long being part of a couple brings challenges I wasn’t expecting. Not just the big stuff, but the little things like finding out what I like again.
I was asked the other day what type of music I liked – and I couldn’t answer. I’ve been so involved in what WE like over the years that I realised I actually just went with what hubby liked.
So what music do I like?
I like Jazz – in all its forms! Anything from Billie Holiday to M People. I used to love cooking to Jazz and thats something Im looking forward to again. Im also looking forward to sunday mornings listening to Jazz whilst sipping a cappucinno and reading the papers.
I like strong female led Anthems. Think Whats Up (thank you 4 Non Blondes) , think Strong enough (thank you Cher), think New York (and pretty much anything by Alicia Keys) and of course Good as Hell (thank you goddess Lizzo)
I like Disco. I mean who doesn’t love disco. It’s feel good, it’s fabulous, and often it’s just plain silly but it does ALWAYS put a smile on my face.
I like Michael Buble – don’t hate me but there is nothing better at Christmas to really set the scene and to be honest he helps me chill on the long train journeys back and forth to Brighton and who doesn’t love a Buble bath
And finally I like music I can dance to. I used to dance A LOT. I met hubby on a podium at XXL in the early naughties. I used to escape my shyness by dancing away like no-one was watching. Im older, a little bit disabled and so dancing is only in the comfort of my own home right now but its definitely something I enjoy.
So what do I do with this new found knowledge?
After taking some time to think about what music I like I realise thats an eclectic list. Its one that I realise Im going to have put some effort into distilling, but actually one that I am looking forward to reconnecting with.
To do this I decided Im going to create some playlists- or my own set of mix tapes (in fact Im going to call them mix tapes 1, 2 3, etc) – so when I finally get a home of my own again I can have the sounds that support my new life. I fully expect to create a smart home – with speaker zones like the ones we had at our house, but this time…
IM THE DJ!!!
